I am Leon van der Pol

I was born on January 17, 1975. I lived near the city of Rotterdam and grew up with both beach and city.

I still love being in and near water; here I experience calmness. The city on the other hand is a vibrant inspirator for me. Both realms provide me with the space I need to develop new ideas.

Apart from being a designer I am also a husband for my wife Jiska, father for my sons Tygo (2003) and Birk (2013). And I’m also living my life as Leon, loving to meet new people and explore new opportunities.

I love food

I like eating food, preparing food and talking about food. I like to share it with people, especially the ones I love. Eating and cooking together is a fantastic way to connect. For me, food stands for feeling comforted and feeling at home.

In some ways, my work as an interior designer resembles cooking. Both trigger my creativity. And just like in a chef-setting, in projects too the ingredients are the most important necessities to create a balanced, interesting and tasty result.

Wether it’s by cooking with some in-house ingredients or by finding hidden gastronomical gems anywhere in the world, food gets me surprised and let me discover new tastes.

I like to discover

In summer, my family and I like to visit Scandinavia, Norway in particular. We’re into “adventurous” holidays; cylcing the Rallervegen, hiking at Haukeliseter, building our own wooden raft in Sweden.

In spring, we prefer Italy or other Mediterranean countries: good food, nice weather and new places and cultures to explore.

In winter, around new year’s eve, we can be found on the Dutch island of Texel. Rain, storm - doesn’t matter. After a fresh, cold or windy day, we light up the fire, play a board game and cook us selves a nice meal.

In general, I’d like to broaden my horizon.
